The Venice Historical Regatta 3/9/2017~3/9/2017

Even now the Regata Storica is one of the most spectacular, picturesque and moving events of Venetian life, capable of both charming the tourists and exciting the locals.
A historical procession commemorates the welcome given to Caterina Cornaro, wife of the King of Cyprus, in 1489 after she renounced her throne in favour of Venice. It is a procession of 16th century style boats, with the famous Bucintoro, the boat representing the Serenissima, at its head.

To whom is going to be present for the very first time to the Venice Historical Regatta, we give some basic information about the races, reminding that in the old days they were open to the citizens of all the Serenissima Republic possessions while today only venetian rowers take part in them. The climax of the Venice Historical Regatta is the champions´ race on two-oared gondolini, light boats shaped as a very slim gondola. Unlike the regattas on the most popular lagoon boats, these competitions exalt the rowers technical abilities more than their power. This is the challenge that is more waited for by the rowing people, the one that lights up the venetian fans and has been strengthening in time the myth of the Regata Storica from an agonistic point of view.
